Return to Grand Marais (day 3 pm)
When you think of "Up North," you think of pine trees, fresh air, quietness, AND moose! Well at least we do. So this afternoon, we decided we were going to find us a moose. We call it "moose hunting," but in all reality, we're just trying to see one. We waited a little before dusk, then drove up the Gunflint trail because the locals here tell us that's where we'd see 'em. Actually, when Steve called pulled over for speeding on the way up there (not my favorite moment), the nice police officer told us one of her colleagues had just hit one with his squad car the day before.
We stopped at fields, overlooks, dirt roads, and swamps. We were sure to find us one...
And then the fog rolled in. It was neat to see it hover over the harbor and move in and out of the little town, but not so great for "moose hunting."
Well, we looked long and hard... and no moose. So we went to the campsite to visit.
The kiddos quickly forgot their disappointment when they heard they could roast a few marshmallows.
A little sugar solves a multitude of problems ya know.
One of my favorite things is when we put the kiddos to bed, after a long day of having fun, and treat ourselves to some custard, or Sven and Ole's pizza.
Even better, both! And while we waited for our pizza, I snapped a few photos of the crazy night life ;)
...That's what I love about this place.
