Where to Hang 8x10 Nature Prints

There are so many stunning 8x10 nature prints out there. These prints are taller than they are wide, which can help elongate the appearance of your walls or draw the eye up or down your walls.

Hanging a print in the wrong place based on its size and orientation is common. You want to make sure you hang the prints at the right height to create a good focal point for your home.

But with a few pointers, you can hang your nature art with ease and confidence that you’ve hung them in the best place possible.

Where to Hang Art and Photos in Your Home

Wondering where in your home you should hang your artwork? The first step in creating an inviting environment is to choose the best places to hang your artwork based on the sizes of your walls and existing décor. Here are four ideas for where to hang your nature prints.

1. Above Furniture

Larger art pieces look great over furniture. An 8x10 print will be challenging to hang alone over most pieces of furniture other than small side tables. If you’re hanging artwork over a bench or a low-backed chair, make sure your art print is 5-8 inches above someone’s head when they are sitting in the chair or on the bench.

2. On Blank Walls

Hallways or large blank walls are an invitation to hang your prints and make them stand out. Just be sure you hang them at eye height and in a place where they won’t get knocked down or disrupted by regular foot traffic.

3. As a Gallery Wall

Gallery walls are a popular way to display artwork. You can pull together a variety of different artwork sizes and styles to create a neat focal point in any area of your home. It might be over the mantel, above the headboard in your bedroom or your entryway. Gallery walls are a great way to show your interests and personality in a big way.

4. Leaned Against Something

Sometimes, you don’t want to hang a print at all. Instead, you can lean it against the wall or other object. That way, you don’t have to put holes in your walls. Plus, this can provide a more casual, relaxed appearance. You can lean statement pieces against large pieces of furniture or use a variety of sizes of prints and artwork to create some drama against your mantel.

5. Stand Them Up for Variations

Some smaller spaces or areas with a great deal of furniture and not a lot of space can work well for framed photos on a stand instead of hung on the wall. This is a classic, sleek look that can help you display images of your loved ones or smaller nature prints in rooms that already have enough on the walls.

Tips for Hanging 8x10 Nature Prints

Get ready to bring the great outdoors inside your home with stunning nature prints. You’ll feel at one with nature and your home will feel a bit more inviting. Here are some tips for placing your prints strategically in your home.

1. Hang Single Prints at Eye Level

The guidelines for how high to hang art depend on whether you're creating a collage of prints or a single print. If you're hanging just one print, hang it at eye level. Generally, this is 60 inches off the floor.

However, the rules change when you are hanging your nature prints above furniture. In that case, it’s best to hang it about 4-6 inches above the top of the furniture.

Just make sure that when hanging a single art piece over a sofa that it is 2/3 the width of the furniture. Otherwise, it will look small for the space. If it is too small to go over the sofa, you can add a few other prints around it to make it look right-sized.

Generally, 8x10 artwork is best when used in conjunction with other pieces. It is not considered a statement art piece, which is something that could stand alone. Otherwise, you’ll use your 8x10 artwork on a smaller wall in a bedroom, kitchen or bathroom.

2. When Hanging a Collage, Treat It As One Piece

Even when you hang your nature print as part of a collage, you’ll center the collage 60 inches from the floor. So the eye-level rule still applies regardless of how many pieces of art you’re hanging together.

Groups of 2, 3 or 4 prints should still be at eye level. You’ll want to space them a few inches apart to make them come together nicely. But you’ll still want them to be in a good place for you and your household to see them at eye level.

3. Gallery Walls Require Consistent Spacing

When you hang your prints in a gallery, your spacing between prints should be consistent. Gallery walls have few rules. You can mix your nature prints with other types of images to create an eclectic look. Or you can purchase a variety of nature prints together to create a tribute to nature.

Larger prints should have 2-3 inches between them. Smaller pieces should be tighter together at 1.5-2.5 inches. Spacing is so important. You’ll find it far easier to hang prints with consistent spacing when you use painter’s tape to create your layout on the wall before creating nail holes.
