We're Throwing a Flower Party : She's Turning FIVE!

She talked about a "flower party" for the past nine months. I think we pulled it off, despite a freshly broken wrist for me. (I'm fine, just a little annoyed). We kept it simple with family, lunch, and old-school games. And just like that, she's 15, I mean FIVE. But my goodness, it might as well be 15. My baby is all grown up! It breaks my heart, and makes me so proud all at the same time. Mama's, what is it about FIVE?! It's such a milestone year. Take a look.

Now the cake. We had to switch gears on the cake idea last minute, due to the fact that I couldn't use both hands to squeeze frosting out, or make fondant flowers cascading over the sides like we had planned. Instead we made individual flower pot cakes! And they were a hit! Here's what we did:We bought clay pots at the dollar store, put a baked cupcake at the bottom. (She wanted chocolate). In the middle of the cupcake, place a straw the length of the pot. Then we scooped softened ice cream on top of the cake (we used vanilla), careful not to get any in the straw. Crush up cookies for the dirt, trim the straw so it is not visible, and freeze until an hour or so before the party. You can pick fresh flowers of your choice to place inside of the straw. And everyone has their own flower pot cake! We used this gluten free cake mix and this dairy free ice cream to make sure her birthday cake was still in line with our diet. Oh, and the gluten free cookies are from Trader Joe's. Let me tell ya, they were tasty, and way easier than the sudo-wedding cake this girl had in mind. ;)2017-01-21_0013.jpg2017-01-21_0014.jpg

Oh, but they were good sports!2017-01-21_0025.jpgThanks for reading! Let me know if you have any questions about anything you see. I love feedback!2017-01-21_0026.jpg
