Boo.
To say that the kids have been excited for Trick-or-Treating would be an understatement. For about the past 46 days, they've been asking, "How many more days?" So excited, in fact, that often I would find one or two of them hiding under 3 layers of bedding, fast asleep, napping, sweating in their costume. Whether or not the costume even fit was irrelevant.
The festivities started with a very special package sent from Denver, CO! Such a package is always packed with sweet cards, books, activities, stickers, and the like, all representing the specific holiday. The boys are starting to recognize these large manilla envelopes as hand-delivered treasure! (Thank You Aunt Nancy)! : ) After reading several special books, the boys were bouncing-off-the-wall excited.
It's sad to see that the schools no longer participate in the Halloween fun. (Well, I kinda get it, but does everything always have to be so P.C.?!?!). I remember at their age, half the excitement was dressing up and parading proudly around the school as we admired each others creativity. Now that there's none of that, we had to pack a lot of fun into just a couple of dark evening hours. So, we started at our church's 2nd annual Trunk-or-Treat. For those of you who don't know, members of the church decorate their car/trunk/themselves, and hand out candy to the kiddos as they walk from trunk to trunk. Gotta say, I love it. It saves so much time, as the houses in our neighborhood are not very close together. It's safe, fun, and the bouncy house, firetruck, and mini doughnuts seem to make it extra special.
Since the big boys are getting older and still had a bit of energy left, we headed out across town a bit to drop in on 'our peeps.' It was fun for the kids to surprise them, and I think fun for them to be surprised ;) Obviously we couldn't stay long, but their neighborhood was so inviting --- and houses were a lot closer together ;) We did a little door-to-door 'treating' since we had time. We had to call it, when we hit the end of the road and it started to rain. We headed home with enough candy to last this gluten / dairy free family 15 years… But still, the big boys did not want to quit! We reached our street and three of us got out and hit about four more houses. Then we added two more kids to the race and a handful of houses. Soon, it was Steve lighting the way with the car, while the kids and I hit every house 'til we ended up at our own. We ended the night exhausted, yet hyper, and so excited to start sorting and trading. But…some fun had to be saved for tomorrow : ) It was WAY passed their bed time.
These first few pics are not quite right because I hardly had time to grab my camera, let alone change settings. Thankful to just capture the moments, especially for Aunt Nancy. We love you!
Elsa and I are all ready to go! Just waiting for those boys ;)
